A C-54D Skymaster Transport from the 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron, 374th Troop Carrier Wing was on a combat mission when it crashed three miles north of Pyongyang, North Korea. With a first flight in 1945, the aircraft (4272742), was written off as a total loss.
Born December 03, 1923, Andrew was the son of Paul Heryla (1881-1931) and Mary Bilawski Heryla (later Mrs. Nick Kirchanski) (1878-1956). He is buried in Saint Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, St. Andrew, Minnesota. He and his wife Wanda had a son, Gary Heryla. Sergeant Heryla's siblings were John, Nick, Paul, Peter, Mike, William and Frank Heryla, and well as Anna Heryla Kaminsky and Mary C. Heryla DeMars. Sergeant Heryla was an aerial engineer who enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1942 and served at Guadalcanal. He was a graduate of Columbia Heights High School.
Born July 29, 1921 in Nebraska, he was the son of Frank Atwill Simpson (1885-1973) and Myrna Gay Marietta Simpson (1891-1983). He enlisted on January 02, 1942, serving in World War II. He is buried in Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, Kansas. He was married to Marjorie Lou Parr Simpson (1923-2004). The couple had a daughter, Patricia "Patty" Simpson Cussimanio (1947-2022).
Howard was born June 27, 1926, in Compton, California, the son of Arthur Eugene Thompson (1885-1956) and Elizabeth Brown Thompson (born 1894-died in Canada). A World War II and Korean War veteran, he is buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California. He was married to Jacqueline Rae Elliott on June 14, 1950, in Los Angeles, California. He was the recipient of an Air Medal.
