UDT (Underwater Demolition Teams)

Introduction

Also known as "Frogmen," their missions were dangerous, exhausting, and covert, but also essential to the progress of fighting the enemy during the Korean War. Summing up the importance of Underwater Demolition Teams that served in the Korean War, Douglas Fane, author of the book, Naked Warriors, noted:

Though only two UDTs were available for the greater part of the war, they conducted a most extensive series of combat missions.

During the Korean War the courageous UDT members participated in covert pre-assault reconnaissance, mine removal, search and rescue, recovery, coastal reconnaissance behind enemy lines, tunnel destruction, enemy interrogation, train rail sabotage, night reconnaissance, measuring beaches, etc. The UDT team participated in Operation Fishnet, simulated invasions to fool the enemy, and beach security.
