General Orders No. 92 - 12 January 1953
Captain Robert Sandre, 4027, Artillery, French Army. Captain Sandre, a member of an infantry battalion, distinguished himself by gallantry in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Haduch'on, Korea. In the early morning hours of 21 January 1952, friendly troops were defending their positions against an attack by a large hostile force. In order to bring badly needed ammunition to the friendly infantrymen, Captain Sandre organized a volunteer ammunition-carrying party and led it through intense fire to the beleaguered unit. Then, obtaining a weapon, he participated actively in the friendly defense, firing with great accuracy into the attacking mass of hostile troops and inspiring those about him with his calm determination. Shortly thereafter, he led two comrades to a forward position in an attempt to capture a prisoner. Exposed to harassing fire from an enemy bunker, he charged fearlessly toward the hostile emplacement, destroying it, and annihilated its crew. Under his courageous leadership, the small patrol then captured a prisoner and returned safely to friendly lines. The gallantry exhibited by Captain Sandre throughout this action reflects great credit on himself and the French Army.
